5 Most Awaited Video Games Launching in 2027

5 Most Awaited Video Games Launching in 2027

I’ll be honest, I’m already thinking about 2027. 2026 still has plenty to play, but every time I scroll through upcoming release lists, the same names keep catching my eye. Some are sequels to games I love, some are remakes I never thought I’d see, and one is a project people have been waiting on for years.

So here are the five I think players are most excited about. Before we start, one important note: release dates in gaming move around all the time. A game that says “Q1 2027” today can easily become “Q3 2027” tomorrow. I’ll point out which dates look solid and which ones are still guesses, so you aren’t caught off guard.

How I Picked These Five

I didn’t just choose my personal favorites. I looked at which games are rated “extremely anticipated” or “very anticipated” on release trackers, which ones have a release window pointing to 2027, and which ones people are actively talking about after this year’s big showcases. I also wanted a mix, so you’ll see an RPG, a shooter, a remake, and a story-heavy sci-fi game.

1. The Witcher 4

Let’s start with the big one. If there’s a single game that sits at the top of most 2027 wish lists, it’s this.

On the tracker I checked, The Witcher 4 is the only PC game in 2027 labeled “extremely anticipated.” That’s a pretty strong sign of how many people are waiting for it.

Why people are excited

The Witcher 3 is still one of the most loved RPGs ever made, and fans have wanted a follow-up for a long time. This new game starts a fresh story, with Ciri as the main character instead of Geralt. The developers have said her fighting style will be noticeably different from his, shaped by her personality and past.

The world should also feel familiar in size. CD Projekt has said the map is “more or less” the same size as the previous game. So if you loved wandering around the old world, expect that same feeling of freedom.

When is it coming?

Here’s where I have to be careful. There’s no official date. CD Projekt confirmed during an earnings call that the game will not launch before 2027. But that only rules out 2026. It doesn’t confirm a 2027 release, and a later date is still possible.

The game entered full production in late 2024, and a surprise cinematic trailer followed at The Game Awards. If you want to play it, keep it on your wish list, but don’t rearrange your whole year around it yet.

2. Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake

This one has me more curious than I expected.

The tracker lists the Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X, with a first-quarter 2027 target, and marks it as “extremely anticipated.”

Why people are excited

The original Max Payne games came out in the early 2000s, and they were known for a gloomy, noir-style story and slow-motion gunfights. The idea of seeing both games rebuilt with modern graphics is enough to get a lot of older gamers excited. The remake is being made by Remedy, the same studio that made the originals, with Rockstar publishing.

Even if you never played the old ones, the premise is easy to get into. You play a detective whose life falls apart, and you fight your way through a story full of revenge and bad decisions. Think of it as a dark action movie you can control.

A quick warning

A Q1 date on a tracker is an estimate, not a promise. Remakes can slip, so check Remedy’s or Rockstar’s announcements closer to the time.

3. Metro 2039

If you like story-heavy shooters, this is probably already on your list.

Metro 2039 is scheduled for February 2027, and it’s described as one of the most significant upcoming 2027 games confirmed after the 2026 Summer Game Fest. It comes from 4A Games, the studio behind the earlier Metro games.

Why people are excited

The Metro series is known for its moody atmosphere. It continues the tradition of putting you in the irradiated tunnels under Moscow. If you’ve never tried a Metro game, here’s the short version: you survive in the dark, scavenge for ammo, deal with mutants, and meet people who each have their own reasons for staying alive. It’s tense, and that’s what makes it fun.

The series also tends to mix shooting with stealth. You can sneak around or go loud, which makes it easy to play in your own style.

What to keep in mind

February 2027 is the date listed in recent coverage, so this one has a more specific window than the other games here. Still, check for updates before you plan on it.

4. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn

This is my pick for the “story and choices” crowd.

Osiris Reborn is being developed by Owlcat Games and is expected in Q2 2027. The tracker lists it for Xbox Series X, PC and PS5, and rates it as “very anticipated.”

Why people are excited

The Expanse is a well-known sci-fi series about humans spread across the solar system, with political tension between Earth, Mars and the outer colonies. A game set in that world gives players a chance to make their own choices inside a story fans already love.

There’s another reason people are paying attention. Expectations are high because Owlcat has a good track record with complex RPG systems. If you’ve played their older games, you know they like deep choices and big consequences. That should translate well to a space setting.

Who is it for?

If you enjoy character-driven games where your decisions matter, this is one to watch. If you prefer fast action over reading dialogue, it might not be your first pick.

5. Final Fantasy VII: Revelation

I’ll be upfront about this one. It’s the game I know the least about, and I don’t want to pretend otherwise.

A release tracker lists Final Fantasy VII: Revelation for PS5, Xbox Series X, PC and Switch 2, with a Q2 2027 target, and rates it as “very anticipated.”

Why people are excited

Final Fantasy VII is one of the most famous games ever made, and anything with that name gets attention right away. Fans have been following the recent versions of the story closely, and many want to see where Cloud and his friends go next.

What I can’t tell you

I couldn’t find detailed official information on the story, gameplay, or exact release date. Because of that, I’d treat this one as tentative. Check Square Enix’s official channels for confirmed details before getting too attached to the date.

It’s still worth mentioning because of the sheer size of the fanbase. Even a tentative Final Fantasy VII game tends to dominate conversations once any news drops.

Other Games Worth Watching

Five isn’t a lot, and 2027 looks packed. Here are a few more that just missed my list but keep showing up on trackers.

  • ILL: Rated “very anticipated” on the PC tracker. It’s a horror game for people who like getting scared.

  • State of Decay 3: Also rated “very anticipated.” If you like zombie survival with a community feel, keep an eye on it.

  • The Wolf Among Us 2: Another “very anticipated” pick, and a sequel that story fans have waited a long time for.

  • Clockwork Revolution: Listed as “very anticipated.” A time-bending RPG that’s worth following.

  • Lords of the Fallen 2: Listed with a Q1 2027 target across PS5, Xbox Series X, PC and Switch 2. A good one for fans of tough action RPGs.

  • Exodus: Also listed for Q1 2027 on Xbox Series X, PC and PS5. A sci-fi story game that’s earning attention.

What This Means for 2027

Looking at all these games together, a few things stand out.

First, remakes and sequels are everywhere. Max Payne, Final Fantasy VII, The Witcher and Metro are all names players already know. Studios seem to be betting on stories people are already attached to.

Second, story-driven games are getting a lot of attention. The Witcher 4, The Expanse and Metro 2039 are all about worlds and characters, not just gameplay.

Third, most of these are coming to multiple platforms. Most of the confirmed 2027 games are targeting a multi-platform release strategy. That means whether you play on PS5, Xbox or PC, you’ll likely have options.

Tips for Getting Ready

If you want to enjoy these games without wasting money, here are a few simple tips.

  1. Don’t pre-order too early. Release dates change, and reviews come out closer to launch. Wait until you’ve seen real gameplay.

  2. Catch up on older games. If you’ve never played The Witcher 3 or the older Metro games, you have plenty of time to try them before the new ones arrive.

  3. Save some money. Big games cost a lot. Setting aside a bit each month makes launch day less painful.

  4. Check your storage. Many modern games take up huge amounts of space. A bigger drive might be a smart purchase.

  5. Follow official channels. Studios announce updates on their own sites and social pages first, so follow the ones you care about.

My Honest Take

If I had to pick just one, I’d say The Witcher 4 has the biggest buzz, but Metro 2039 has the clearest date and The Expanse: Osiris Reborn feels like the most interesting wild card. Max Payne is the one I’m personally most curious about, mostly because I’d love to see how it holds up in a modern version.

But gaming news moves fast. By the time 2027 arrives, some of these games might be delayed, and a surprise announcement could shake up the whole list. That’s part of the fun.
