Top PS5 Games in 2026: What’s Actually Worth Playing
Every year the same thing happens. A new batch of games comes out, the internet argues about what’s best, and you’re left staring at the PlayStation Store wondering where your money should go.
2026 has been a good year for PS5 owners, so I’ve put together a list that’s easy to follow. You’ll find new releases, recent favorites that are still great, and the games people are downloading the most. I’ve also added a quick guide at the end for choosing based on your mood.
One note first. Rankings change fast, and game lists online don’t always agree. Treat this as a solid starting point, not the final word.
The Big New Games of 2026
Resident Evil Requiem
If you only pick one new game from this year’s list, many critics would point you here. Resident Evil Requiem has the highest Metacritic score of 2026 so far, and it’s being called the best main entry in the series since Resident Evil 4.
Even if you’ve never touched a Resident Evil game, the series is simple at heart: you explore creepy places, manage limited ammo, solve puzzles, and try not to panic when something grabs you. It’s a good pick if you like horror with real tension and a strong story.
Saros
Saros is one of the big PlayStation exclusives of the year. TechRadar lists it among the recent releases worth playing on PS5. It comes from the studio behind Returnal, so expect fast action, a moody sci-fi setting, and a challenge that makes you earn your wins. If you enjoy games where you get better the more you play, this one is for you.
007: First Light
The James Bond fans among you finally get a proper game. 007: First Light is also named in TechRadar’s list of top recent releases. It follows a younger Bond at the start of his career, mixing stealth, gadgets and action. It’s a good one for people who want something stylish and story-driven without a huge time commitment.
Pragmata and Crimson Desert
Two newer releases made a big splash on the store charts. Pragmata and Crimson Desert both had strong debuts on PlayStation charts in April 2026. Pragmata is a sci-fi adventure with robots. Crimson Desert is a big open-world RPG. Players in a Push Square community poll mentioned both when talking about their favorites of the year, with one person naming Pragmata as their game of the year so far. If you like exploring huge worlds, Crimson Desert might eat up your free time. If you want something a bit different, give Pragmata a look.
Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
Don’t write this one off as a kids’ game. TechRadar describes it as funny, full of charm, and arguably one of the best games yet from Traveller’s Tales. It’s easy to pick up, great for playing with family, and fun even if you’re an adult who just wants a relaxed evening.
Marvel’s Wolverine
I want to be careful here. A June 2026 article said Insomniac’s Wolverine was one of the most anticipated exclusives, with a release planned for the second half of 2026. Since we’re now late in the year, check the PlayStation Store to see whether it’s out yet and what reviews are saying before you buy.
Recent Games That Are Still Fantastic
You don’t have to chase only new releases. Some games from the last couple of years are still among the best on the console.
Ghost of YĹŤtei
The follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima is another beautiful samurai adventure. It shows up alongside Resident Evil Requiem, Saros and Death Stranding 2 in Briggo’s rundown of the top PS5 games of 2026. It was also a big seller. It made the top ten of PlayStation’s most downloaded PS5 games of 2025 in the US and Canada. If you love open-world games with great scenery and satisfying sword fights, this is an easy yes.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
This one is strange, in a good way. It’s from Hideo Kojima, so expect a weird story, big ideas and a very unusual style of gameplay about connecting a broken world. GamesRadar mentions it near the top of its list of the best PS5 games in 2026. It’s not for everyone, but if you like games that try something new, it’s worth a shot.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
This turn-based RPG surprised a lot of people. It made PlayStation’s 2025 most-downloaded list in both the US/Canada and EU. It has gorgeous art, a heartfelt story and battle mechanics that make you think about timing instead of just picking menu options. If you’ve ever liked a Final Fantasy game, you’ll feel right at home.
Helldivers 2
Want to play with friends and laugh a lot? GamesRadar includes Helldivers 2 in its best PS5 games for 2026. It’s a team shooter where you fight giant bugs and robots, and where friendly fire is very real. It’s chaotic, and that’s the point.
God of War Ragnarök
If you haven’t played it yet, do. TechRadar still lists God of War Ragnarök among its modern hits to play on PS5. It continues Kratos and Atreus’ story with more emotional writing, big fights and great pacing. Play the 2018 game first if you can, since the story builds on it.
Astro Bot and Spider-Man 2
Two PlayStation exclusives I’d recommend to almost anyone. Astro Bot is a cheerful platformer that shows off the controller’s features and is fun for all ages. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the fastest, flashiest version of web-swinging yet. Both are good if you want something easy and fun.
Hollow Knight: Silksong
This long-awaited indie sequel had an excellent launch on PlayStation. It ranked second in Europe and fourth in the US and Canada on PS5 downloads in September 2025. It’s a hand-drawn adventure with tough bosses and lots of secrets. Good for patient players who like exploring.
The Games Everyone Is Actually Downloading
Reviews are great, but what are regular players spending time on? Store charts give us a clue.
Sports Games
Sports titles remain huge. In April 2026, MLB The Show 26 took the top PS5 spot in the US and Canada, while EA Sports FC 26 led European downloads. EA Sports FC 26 also ranked second in the Latin American PS5 list for July 2026. If you like football, baseball or basketball, there’s a good game ready for you. NBA 2K26 also showed up in that July list at number eight.
Call of Duty and Other Shooters
Call of Duty is still a favorite. In Latin America in July 2026, Call of Duty: Black Ops II was number one on PS5 and Black Ops came fourth. Older Call of Duty games seem to be having a nostalgia moment.
Battlefield 6 is another one worth knowing. It took second place in the US on PlayStation’s 2025 most-downloaded PS5 list. And ARC Raiders is a newer extraction shooter that also made the 2025 top ten in the US and ranked in the EU list as well. Remakes and Remasters
People love going back to old favorites. The July 2026 Latin America chart had Halo: Campaign Evolved at number three, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced at number six, and Resident Evil 4 at number seven. If you want something familiar with updated graphics, remakes are a good bet.
Free and Evergreen Games
Some games never leave the charts. Fortnite was the top free-to-play game on PlayStation for 2025. Minecraft stays popular too. It ranked fifth on PS5 in the July 2026 Latin America list. And Grand Theft Auto V, Roblox, Fortnite and Minecraft are described as fixtures among the most played games month after month.
If you’re on a budget, free-to-play and older games give you the most hours for the least money.
Other Games Worth Knowing About
A few more that came up in recent lists:
Starfield: Bethesda’s big space RPG is now available on PS5, and TechRadar says it may be at its best there. Good for players who love exploring and building their own story.
Romeo Is a Dead Man: TechRadar calls it a sleeper pick you shouldn’t overlook. If you like weird, stylish action games, check it out.
Gran Turismo 7: GamesRadar calls it the best racing game on PS5. A great pick if you love cars.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink: TechRadar rates it as one of the best action RPGs on PS5. A good co-op choice if you like anime-style fights.
Not Sure What to Pick? Use This Guide
Here’s the quick version, depending on what you’re in the mood for.

Want a huge open world? Ghost of YĹŤtei or Crimson Desert.
Want a story that hits you emotionally? God of War Ragnarök.
Want something challenging? Saros or Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Want to play with friends? Helldivers 2, Fortnite, or a sports game.
Want something relaxing? Astro Bot or Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
Want a classic RPG feel? Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Want something short and stylish? 007: First Light.
A Few Tips Before You Spend Money
Games can get expensive, so here are some simple habits that help.
Wait for sales. The PlayStation Store runs discounts all the time. Many games drop in price within months of launch.
Check your subscription. PlayStation Plus’ May 2026 lineup included EA Sports FC 26, Wuchang and Nine Sols. You might already have a good game waiting in your library.
Read a few reviews. Look at both critic scores and player opinions. They don’t always match.
Check the storage. Big games take up a lot of space. Make sure you have enough room before you buy.
Watch for the PS5 Pro. If you own one, check whether a game has Pro enhancements. Many of GamesRadar’s picks are PS5 Pro enhanced.

Final Thoughts
If you own a PS5, 2026 is a great year to be playing. There are big new releases like Resident Evil Requiem, Saros and 007: First Light, recent hits like Ghost of YĹŤtei and Clair Obscur, and plenty of free and cheap options for when your wallet needs a break.
My advice is simple. Don’t try to play everything. Pick one game that matches your mood, enjoy it properly, and move on to the next one when you’re ready.
So which one are you starting with? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll try to suggest something similar.
